Our Story

Dream Scene is a magical place, filled with laughter, love, and birthday fun. For many years now, Dream Scene has been the go-to party venue, not only because of its sparkly rainbow interior or delicious cotton candy, but because of its dependability, excellence, and the many devoted family members and friends behind its creation. The story of Dream Scene was formed by many unexpected events, but that is exactly what shaped the business into what it is today.

Annie Meinberg started her career as a teacher at Addams Elementary, carefully and enthusiastically planning every fun-filled learning day. Annie loved working with kids, and her classroom was always stocked full with books to read all together. Although she loved teaching, it wasn’t the only adventure she had in mind. In 2019, Annie wrote her 42-page business plan and resigned from teaching. With zero fear and big dreams, Annie began to renovate and reconstruct an office building into the pastel and sparkly building people know and love. After two months of hard work, Dream Scene celebrated its grand opening in October of 2019.

 

After it opened, Dream Scene became adored by its community. Annie started booking parties ahead, scheduling dates for the foreseeable future. Until 2020 came. When the world shut down, Dream Scene (and Annie) were thrown into an ultimatum. Annie could either let her dream of a party business shut down, or she could get creative. And innovation and pivot was exactly what she did. Despite the chaos of the time, Annie pursued new ways to ensure her business thrived. She progressed far into the audition process to be on Shark Tank, and she began making and selling ‘Birthday Boxes,’ full of party supplies, cotton candy, and crafts for families who had kids celebrating their birthdays at home.

 

The boxes were a great start, but Annie had another idea that would not only help support her business, but would help her go back to something that she knew and loved: teaching. Annie hosted an information night for an online school help program, where families who wanted their kids to have community could bring their kids to Dream Scene and have them complete their online schoolwork there. The demand was there, especially in such a separated time. After the initial information night, parents signed up! Annie asked her best friend, Haley, who was studying to be a teacher, to help her run the program. It was a smashing success.

 

Eventually, the idea that started as a way to help kids learn over Zoom calls morphed into a full-blown homeschool program. What started as a 2-week endeavor ended up with kids going to school Monday through Thursday, saving room for parties to eventually begin on the weekends once the scare of the pandemic was over. Annie hired retired teachers who she had previously worked with at Addams Elementary to teach alongside her. Countless dance parties, fun math lessons, and cooking classes later, those 2 weeks turned into the most wonderful 3 years of school. With school during the week and parties on the weekend, Dream Scene never had a dull moment.

 

Dream Scene has always been, and will always be a place of creativity and evolution. With 20+ party hosts having worked at Dream Scene throughout the years, Dream Scene has left a lasting impact on everyone who has been there. Every year Dream Scene donates 30 ‘mini parties’ to silent auctions benefiting charities, and you can always find Dream Scene out in its community, from spinning cotton candy for country club events to hosting Addams Elementary's Peer-To-Peer program’s events. None of this would be possible without all the amazing clients, teachers, and friends who have supported Dream Scene through all of its stages. A special thank you goes out to Annie’s parents, lovingly nicknamed Fix-it Fred and Fancy Nancy, who are the most supportive parents, and have been Dream Scene’s #1 fan through everything.

 

What Dream Scene will look like in the years to come is uncertain, whether Dream Scene pursues the idea of opening up franchises, or starting another homeschool program. Although there is one thing about Dream Scene that will never change. Through all of Dream Scene’s story, there has been one outstanding goal: to dream BIG. No matter what, Dream Scene will always be a place where excited giggles fill the air, friendships are built, and unforgettable memories are made.
